The MGA has a unique exhaust- square muffler vs round and it does not fit
well. Also the exhaust to bellhousing brace was attache with birds**t.
Looking through the PO's receipts last night for the paint code, I found
the reason. The poor A was Midasized! It still works so I am not going to
replace it but that explains the head pipe being about 4 inches below the
floor. The exhaust had worked itself loose at the donut since the brace
was no longer attached. A 1 3/4 muffler clamp and some plumber's tape
fixed that problem. Per Barney's suggestion I used stainless nuts instead
of brass so hopefully they will stay tight. In any case it doesn't rattle
any more when I shut the car off.
