[OT] Computer purchase question

I've got a computer question for the list. My girlfriend is about to
purchase a PC for home.  It looks like Pentium II 266mHz is the norm
now.  Should she opt for 32 megs ram or 64?  Also, have you folks had
luck with mail order places or purchasing them locally.  We've looked at
gateway & midwest micro so far, both mail order.  Any good/bad
experiences with these folks?  Thanks.
