The usual method (in a body shop anyway) would be to paint the back side and edges of the door, then hang it on the car, and paint the exterior. That way, you know all the edges are covered, and it will match the adjacent panels as well. I'm repainting my B all over, and I'm handling all of the removable panels this way.
