If your car is already running, then pull the cap and
turn the engine over until the rotor is "close" to #1 plug
wire. Then use the timing marks to get it correct.
This only works if the engine has been running lately, because
if you aren't sure of the plug wires you can get it 180 degrees
off this way.

Neither unit has any adjustment, external control unit or otherwise.
No adjustment is needed beyond the usual "spin the distributor to
set timing".
