All:
The oil pressure problems are back (well, sort of -- this time I think I
know the cause). Miss Molly the '79 Midget has started winking her oil
pressure light at me when she idling on a hot engine (about an hour or so
of driving); the pressure drops to 25-27 lbs. The oil pump is new, and
her engine has less than 2500 miles on it. Today was not a hot day,
maybe 70 degrees.
She has a 190 degree thermostat in her. My guess is that this is too
high a rating, and causes the oil to thin after prolonged operation at
temperature. I am planning to install a lower rated thermostat (as in
165 degrees), before I go to buying an oil cooler (which is on the wish
list).
Anything wrong with my reasoning?
