I saw a post 2-3 days ago, some one wanting to install a warning lite
that the emergency brake was on. This is fairly easy, as BL & Mr Lucas
teamed up & invented one for you, & it really works. I did the following
swap in my 1974 GT:
Beg borrow or ....or as a last resort, buy an emergency brake lever from
any 1977 or newer BGB, at least that holds for U.S. models. The assembly
will include a small switch & wiring harness. If the switch is missing,
try the usual sources. One wire, green, goes to an "ignition hot"
source. You could pick up from the reverse lite switch. The other wire,
green/orange, goes to the warning lite of your choice. The warning lite
needs to have its other wire connected to ground. It is best to find a
location in the dash for the lite. If you put it in the console, you may
not see it. You could also hook the switch to a buzzer instead of/ in
addition to the warning lite.
Swapping out the handle is a little tedious, & is much easier if you
remove the passenger seat, jack up that side of the car. Good time to
lube the grease fitting on the cable, if you forgot it the last time you
did a chassie lube. Suggest you hit the large machine screws mounting
your emergency brake with PB Blaster a day ahead, as they are often
frozen. Remember, they are Posidrive, not Phillips.
