Lawrie, you've ruined it! I thought I had the steal of the century: an
overdrive transmission for 50 bucks! ; ) Anyway, thanks for clearing it up.
I was 99.99% sure it wasn't an overdrive unit, but I've never actually seen
one in person, so I was ready to run home at lunch to double-check!

John, if you're sure the transmission is non-overdrive, the other
switch is
there to operate a buzzer when you try to put the car in gear
without having
your seat belt buckled or some such Federally-mandated safety
requirement
from the early Seventies.....
