I'm cross-posting between Spridgets and MGs as I'm getting really
frustrated with an ongoing problem and could use a little help.
It's the leaky carb problem. I've got a leak where the hose connects from
the jet to the float bowl. It's at the float bowl end. I tried plumber's
tape on the nut to no avail. I bought new nuts, washers and rubber seals
and using this was able to get one carb to stop leaking. But it wasn't the
really bad one in the first place. I've still got a leak and have two
specific questions:
It seems to me that the hose is not being held in by the nut as if it were
too small in diameter. Is this possible? Should I wrap the hose in tape
for a tighter fit?
I have a 1974 Midget and my present carbs have the designation AUD 549 on
them. With the purchase of the car I also got an old pair of AUD 404s.
Are the jets and hose combos interchangeable between the two? My parts
catalogs seem to point in this direction, but I want to be sure I am
reading that right. Does anyone think switching them would do any good?
Or should I just take the carb back off and try again? :)
The good news is that I bought the correct exhaust brackets for my newly
purchased exhaust and now my car is successfully (it seems) converted from
the non-stock header and straight pipe/muffler setup to the stock manifold
and resonator box/muffler arrangement. Glad to get that done anyway.
Any help is appreciated. It is supposed to get up to 80 degrees tomorrow
after over a week of rain and I'm just dieing to drive!
Thanks,
Philip
