I thought y'all would like to hear this doozy of a story, fresh from
this weekend.
My '91 S-10 has no power steering, and recently when parking I hear a
big 'pop' sound coming from the rack. I checked the fluid in the rack,
greased the fittings, but nothing's changed. So, I decided to let a local
garage take a look at it, as I don't want my steering to fail, ever. I
called them, told them every minute detail about the truck they wanted to
know including engine size, tire size, transmission type, interior color, no
AC, no power steering, etc. I dropped the truck off, running through the
details for the guy AGAIN, then went back to campus. Three hours later, the
guy called me back. He said, "Well, we figured it out. Somebody took off
your power steering pump." As John Boy might say, "When you see Goober,
tell him I said 'Duh-Huh!'"
I took the damn truck back, paid him nothing for his time (I'll be
damned if I'm paying for his incompetence!) and went to Advanced auto.
Bought the manual, diagnosed the problem, replaced the steering U-joint in 2
hours. Total cost, including manual - $30.
It's finals week here, and I'm grateful stupidity isn't contagious! 8-)
