Robert,
 For ordinary street use, the "line up the dots" will work pretty good.\
 That said, you should be aware that when a cam is re-ground, many times
to acheive the specs for the new cam, it is neccessary to "recenter" the
lobes, in effect moving the ideal timing point.
 Unless the ulitmate in HP is your goal, the adjustable timing gear is an
unneccessary expense.
 DO, however, no matter what cam you install, check the timing carefully,
and make any adjustments via the use of offset camshaft keys. These are
availible through most cam suppliers.
 One little trick, is if you have to install a new key (0ffset), set the
timing about 2 degrees advanced from the specs. Then as the timing chain
stretches (and they ALL do), the cam timing will stay more on line.
 Besides, A series engines seem to run a bit better with a degree or two
advance anyway.
