If he want to use it for racing then it probably an
18V head that will require the cut outs in the block.

Yep you can check the shape of the combustion chamber
and/or the size of the valves ... best is to look at
the casting numbers on the top of the head ... date
will be there to.

Much better off ... the 3-main will bolt up with little
work ... the 5-main is much more envolved and requires
that you pick up quite a few odds and ends to get
everything to boltup.
