I purchased two relays (auto part stores have them for fog lights or Radio
Shack ~$5) rated for 15 or 20 amps of current. I mounted them to the sheet
metal just ahead of the radiator (mine's a 1978) so the wiring for the lights
was easy to get at. I attached the old wire for the low beams to the control
of one relay and the supply line for the high beam to the other relay.

The original supply for the lighting should be a Brown wire on the last fuse
(all of the brown wires are unfused on the original design).

I've added a second fuse box with fuses for the High beam, the low beam, the
light switch, and the hazard switch. Power from the starter solenoid goes
through a fusable link (10 ga) to the supply side of all four fuses on the new
box and to the supply on the original box (the brown supply for the lighting
has been moved from the original box to the number three fuse on the new box
and the remaining brown wires have been moved from the unfused to the fused
side of the fourth fuse). Two new wires go from the first two fuses (new box)
to the headlamp relays and from there to the head lamps. In this way the lamp
switch is only switching the parking lights (~8 amps) and the relays (less
than 1 amp). All of the fuses have been replaced with 10 and 15 amp american
fuses. This provides complete coverage for the car's circuits

You can just move the brown lighting wire from the unfused to the fused side
of the fuse box and add fused lines to supply the relays if you don't wish to
do major wiring changes.
