There's no need to remove the rear bearer plate. After removing the clutch
and flywheel, you must remove the seal locking plate (4 bolts), then you
can get the seal out over the end of the crankshaft. A seal puller (a
90-degree hook on the end of a piece of steel) is the easiest tool to use
but it can be done by driving an awl into the seal and then prying
sideways, or ditto with a screwdriver, or any other "butcher's" method of
destroying the seal and pulling it out. Just be careful you don't damage
the surface of the crankshaft flange while you're at it!
