There may be those amongst us that think the frequent references to cats
is nothing but a humorous side-line to the main business, not so.
About ten years ago Mercedes Benz developed the 'cat test'. This
consisted of taking a car at random off the production line, putting a
cat in it and closing all doors, windows and vents. If the cat had
suffocated in an an hour then the car had passed the test.
Alfa Romeo had a similar test, but in their case, success was judged by
the cat not having escaped within an hour.
