I have the major catalogs and the Haynes manual and couldn't find anything.

If I remember correctly, that is a cotter pin hanging out of that hole.
The hole is functioning beautifully!! It is allowing the oil to drain instead
of letting it build up inside of the bellhousing and contaminating the clutch.
The source is either the rear main seal on the engine or the front input shaft
seal on the transmission. As the trans is not supposed to use any oil, if you
monitored its level, you could probably identify the source.
