Blake,
Since you had gunk in your gas, make sure the carb's needle valves (or
grose jets, if you have them) are opening and closing all the way. Some
of that gunk could have gotten in there and is either stuck there, or it
damaged the valve so it doesn't seal. Try blowing air through them with
them opened and closed, to clean them out and make sure they're working.
