Greetings, group
Jim Boyd was ALMOST right on the removal of the MGB door hinges. Jim
points out that you should obtain the correct size of Phillips bit in an
impact driver to remove the hinge screws.
Actually, the screws are Pozidriv, not Phillips. The driver size is #4.
You can tell a Pozidriv screw head from a Phillips by the little hash
marks between the recessed cross arms. Phillips screws don't have these
hash marks.
I bought both impact hex bits and a 3/8" drive bits from Snap-On. When
I tried the #4 bit in the hinge screw, it fit like a glove and hung
there in the screw head like it was magnetized. No more stripped or
buggered heads from using Phillips drivers! That same #4 bit fits the
GT hatch hinges and a few other things on the B as well.
ANYONE who works on MGBs should invest in Pozidriv screwdrivers or
bits!!!
Cheers, Paul Kile
