As the New Years talk has turned to superchargers here are some thoughts:
Mike Goodman, the long time Los Angeles MG expert developed a blower for
the MGB that was to go into limited production. It was a beautiful unit
that bolted on as a replacement for the intake manifold and used a single
SU carb (might have been Jag or Healey size) and looked like it came from
the factory. It probably wasn't cheap and I think he said that the market
was limited because of the smog laws. Maybe now with the new smog laws
that allow one to modify any car up to the 1973 models and more MG owners
that have graduated, and have real jobs, he could consider making a few.

Bruce Wyman of Morriservice had perfected a turbo system for the A series
BMC engines that was killer. He had a Morris Minor van with a turbo 1100
that could just fly, not to mention the 1275 turbo/Datsun 5-speed Bugeye he
built that would run out of aerodynamics at 130mph with another 3000rpm to
go in 5th gear!
Mark Etheridge of Moto Guzzi Classics bike shop in Signal Hill, CA (near
Long Beach) recently built a blower for his 1275 powered Morris Minor
Woodie from some sort of surplus aircraft compressor pump. He took a Mini
Mania HS4 SU aluminium intake manifold, sliced off the carb flange side,
and fabricated a flange that allowed the pump to be bolted to the manifold
and aligning the belt pulley with the extra pulleys that were originally
used for the smog pump on the post '67 smogger mill. The remaining carb
flange piece was reworked into an intake adapter that bolts an HS4 SU to
the blower. It was geared to come on late and only put out about a 7 lb.
boost so you don't even feel it until three guarters through the RPM range,
but at that point it really kicks in 'till redline. He is presently
rebuilding the bottom end. I wonder why? This is the price one pays for
having all of that power spining on three main bearings. Hopefully the new
and upgraded engine will last a bit longer.
