i have been quietly receiving all of your comments re mg's over the past few
months on many subjects and while i have never been compelled to respond to
most of them (unless it was re MGC related) i feal this is a good time to
appear in front of the curtain.
The facts: i had the opportunity to own a 1969 'B' rdstr for a short while
that supposedly took best in show at the new york colloseum in 1969/70; the
fenders were flared sebring style (with scoops for braking only in the rear),
a front spoiler fabricated to look very porche/cobra like, dual side view
mirrors molded into the front fenders w/ a remote controll operated from the
inside, a trunk release mechanism from the drivers side door jam (trunk was
smooth w/no chrome button visable at all)no bumpers of course with sebring
rear valence, 205/60X14 tires on 6 1/2 wide alum 'American' deep dish wheels
w/4bolt pattern, and overdrive(paint from earlier photos indicated cobra blue
w/ two wide ' white' stripes down the middle(cobra style ) and a cobra snake
painted on the left front fender below the fender line... the only component
missing ( sold before i bought it ) was the engine with dual 45's side draft
webers mounted on a Derrington alum head ---now what do i do !
to put in an ordinary engine in this car would have been a crime, a V-8 well
that was a good idea but that has been done already, and since Glen Towery had
no interest in the car i needed something very different.
a local shop had a 71 bgt from oregon with a tubo charged engine in it
--PERFECT!
the engine quiclkly came out, the Rajay turbo was sent to california to be
rebuilt the low compression engine was inspected, cleaned, delailed and
installed.
the results were fantastic, progressive power (w/no wastegate i might add) the
car ran quiet, less noise than a b except for a nice little burble at idle.
acceleration with a Rajay tubo is progressive and seemingly enless- it was so
fast it was scary, however , at a small intersecion ,traveling 45 mph in
peekskill, new york a car ran a light in front of me and that was that , the
car was sold to an enthusiast whose backgroung, character and integrity
still has yet to be determined but he still has the ' B ' tubo (repaired and
hit again, -ohhh that beautiful boot).
so now i will just have to settle for my 172 bhp MGC tri-carb that took first
in class at Indy ' 96... LIFE IS STILL GOOD !
