The old bodyshells rust silently away
and the wild fern clings to ancient outcrops.
I remove some 30 year-old grease besmirched part
and stumble over a 450 million year-old stone
bearing the fossilized remains of
some hapless invertebrate long since vanished.
Which is more obsolete?
This is as good a time as any to pause and reflect.
