Hi Frank,
  There is a key, but it's not the problem here. The key will come off
when the wheel does.  Beg, borrow or steal a wheel puller from someone,
and put it to work. Tighten, tap with hammer on the loosened nut,
tighten, tap, etc.   Tugging on the wheel is not likely to work, but if
it does it will probably remove your front teeth when it comes off the
splines.
