In 1947 the original Maserati company was sold to Omer Orsi. The
brothers Alfieri, Bindo, Ernesto, and Ettore Maserati et al. produced
the first OSCA (Officine Specializate Costruzione Automobili), Tipo Mt4
in the summer of 1948. There followed:
Tipo Mt4 1100cc 1948-1949
Tipo Mt4 1300cc 1949-1950
Tipo Mt4-2AD 1100cc 1950-1956
Tipo Mt4-2AD 1300cc 1951-1953
Tipo Mt4-2AD 1450cc 1953-1955
Tipo Mt4-2AD 1500cc 1954-1957
There were many other types produced in small numbers up to the Tipo
1600SP introduced in 1963, but the most familiar ones to American
enthusiasts were the Mt4 series. This Mt4 series ended as a splendid,
nimble, very light weight, lightning fast little 2 cam four cylinder
racing sports car. It was driven with great success in many important
SCCA events of that era by driver/owners such as Briggs Cunningham, Bill
Lloyd, Bill Spear etc..
Without a doubt, it was one of the most beautiful and exciting sports
cars ever produced.
Best,
Lindsey Parsons 1948 TC #4771
