I'm not aware of MG doing anything like this, but it is not uncommon on later
cars,
and resprays, to have a coat of 'anti-chip' under the top coat. It gives this
mottled effect, sometimes with a hard top edge but sometimes it shades out to
nothing as it goes from bottom to top.
