Actually, having just had my engine rebuilt, I can tell you that priming it isn't really necessary, just hot-tank it, mask off the parts you don't want painted, and shoot it with GM semi-gloss black. I originally wanted it painted before the freeze plugs went in, but think it looks better with the plugs painted as well. Okay, now to get this tongue out of my cheek...
