Sure, Mia but once you get to Boston, where do you park? Legal spaces are
hard to find in Boston/Cambridge, especially in September when the students
are moving (in). When I drove chrome bumpered MG's, I was always getting my
heart broken when someone "tapped (Who made up that term?)" my car while it
was parked on the street. For a number of reasons, I no longer leave the top
down, even in my own private parking space. And removable tops? Ha! Someone
once took the liberty of stowing mine in his/her trunk, perhaps by mistake.
It's easier to use a rubber-bumpered buggy with a folding top as a daily
driver when you need to park in congested areas. When I use a pay-per-hour
parking lot or valet parking, I try not to give the attendant the keys,
because when I return the seat is usually pushed back so I can't reach the
pedals, and they invariably ask "What is that switch for, anyway?" after
they have played with the overdrive switch for a while. At places where the
attendant knows me (or recognizes the car) I can sometimes make an
arrangement where he gets a decent tip and I get to park my own car in a
valet space and take the keys with me.
But on a nice late summer or fall weekend, these little heartbreaks and
irritations can be forgotten when we take a drive........almost anywhere, it
doesn't much matter. As the weather gets cooler at night, don't forget that
it's harder to get the top back up once the sun goes down. Or is it just me?
List -related mini-rants (or rantlettes?) below....
...and while I'm here - My two cents worth (You get what you pay for):
The best music to play in an lbc is whatever music the owner wants to hear.
This morning I was listening to an ABBA tape, and the "da-da" song from the
VW commercial. Later, when driving along the river in light traffic, I was
listening to classical music. Tomorrow, maybe B.B. King. Who cares? Life
is short.
Ooops, looky! Here's two cents more:
No one has to be wrong in order for anyone on this list to be right. No
one's MG or Triumph or Porsche needs to be a piece of junk in order for
anyone else's car to be a great car. It's just like no one's power boat
needs to be a bad idea in order for someone else's sailboat be be a good
idea. I love my 77B Roadster. I also loved my 66 just as much. I also love
my Prelude. I admire GT's when I see them on the road. I love my SU's. You
all are free to love your Webers or whatever.
OK, I'll be quiet now.
Have a good lbc weekend, all.
