   Hi Debbie,
Great question. I've been amazed, fascinated, appalled by the
questions that I keep seeing pop up on this list. I guess I'm a purist
at heart. I have been working at the restoration of a 52TD for the past
few years. I see postings from people who want to brag about installing
non-standard seats, fascias, engines, transmissions, etc
.
Saw a posting recently from someone who was bragging about
replacing the innards of a TD clock with a quartz movement. Only had to
do a little cutting and grinding on the original housing. Ouch!

     This is in T-Series, A's, B's, C's. The whole range. I guess it's
difficult for me to think of wanting to customize an lbc, as they seem
to be called generically.

Custom cars have value, but only if you can find someone else who
places the same value on the changes. Modifications with components that
were common aftermarket items during the car's youth are very
acceptable. Modifications that can not be easily undone will probably
decrease the car's potential value. Don't toss out, or even sell, the
old parts. You may want them when it's time to bring the car to its
potential.

BTW, I've installed a set of MGA 4.30 gears in my TD. A completely
transparent modification, but I kept the 5.125 gears for the next
owner's benefit.
