I think the Bristol engine used in the AC was a pre-war BMW design built under 
license by Bristol (or maybe it was a spoils of war deal), which had a rather 
complicated, pushrod and rocker arm setup opening its hemi-head valves. 
As all good German engines were, it was equipped with Solex carbs.

I'd trade my GT in a heartbeat for an AC Aceca Bristol D2. Hell, I'll even 
through in my old Dodge van (or anything else I own) to seal the deal.
