Sounds like high tension ignition noise. It can usually be cured by the
application of a small condenser externaly mounted near the coil and
connected (If I remember right) to the + side of the coil.
Incidentaly, there is a good section on various noises (electrical) and
their cure in the front of the Haynes MGB Manual. Really handy for
checking out the odd ticks, chirps, and whines eminating from the
speakers (However, there was no obvious cure for what passes for "music"
on the top 40 stations. Major surgery is required in this instance -
installation of a good 8 track deck)
