Actually, the change from 1/4 to 1/2 eliptic springs on the Sprite wasn't
done for 'ride'.
The original rear suspension had a rather famous 'lurch' going into a turn
and it was very easy to unsettle over bumps in a curve.
The change didn't completely eliminate the problem, but did help immensely.
I used to race both types, and can attest to the above.
