Yes, an excellent suggestion. You can also obtain the relays from any
wrecker. Lots of cars use relays for other things that take a lot of
power, such as the electric rad fan.

No, you REALLY don't want a fuse in this circuit. What you want is a
CIRCUIT BREAKER, preferably one for each side. If you have a short, 1.
you won't burn, and 2. you'll still be able to see to get home.
Best of all, circuit breakers are both CHEAP, and a NO BRAINER to
install!!

Yup, nice heavy, fat (12 gauge), stranded copper wire with insulation
rated for 105 degrees C; NOT YOUR 18 gauge household ZIP CORD!!
