I have no clue as to how timing would affect idle, but even so, I
would think that if the weak spark was simulating a retarded timing
setting, that the new, hotter spark would RAISE the idle. At least
that's what always happens to me when I advance the timing; the idle
goes UP.
Also, where's your battery?!? I had a little trouble routing my
new choke cable as well, but if you run yours back near the
batteries, I can see how you came up a little bit short of the carb!
(insert BIG facetious grin here!)
