  Of note, the throttle position sensor is almost always just
two microswitches. One says when the throttle is off, and the
car enters "idle mode" with retarded timing and lean mixture.

  The other registers wide open throttle, and you can predict
what the computer does with this, and what goes out the window
in it's calculations.

  Electronic emissions? Or electronic ignition? It might be
somewhat futile to attempt to add more electronics to
a running MG to lower emissions, but to replace the carb
with an EFI system is far from futile.
