Sad to hear about the damage.

What you might want to consider is one of those alarms that have infrared
beams transmitted from a central location, usually on the dash, and picked
up by a couple of receivers, normally either side of the car, under the dash.

If they pick up a change in the signal, the alarm goes off. I think they're
aimed at open top cars, so that someone leaning into the space filled by the
infrared and disturbing the beam triggers the alarm. Would also work if
someone removed the windscreen I think.

I had one in my midget, but never used it with the top down seeing that
leaves and stuff falling into the car would set it off. Eventually it
broke, and I replaced it with a normal alarm that senses the doors being
opened, car being started or whatever, and goes off. At the same time
it immobilises the ignition. It also has a lead that you thread through
various locations, like foglights and such, and then connect to earth.
The idea being the if this wire is disconnected in order to get the
foglights off, then the alarm is triggered. Seems to work fine.

Of course nothing there stops them wheeling the car away and attacking
it somewhere else, but where I park it would be pretty tricky to push
a car out of a space - it's often hard enough driving it out.....
