Thanks to a couple of listers I found that I had a rod bearing in
backwards, so the engine now turns...... and I felt that certainly today,
after 2 months of intermittent restoration, I could get it up and
running....
Started at 10 am with the feeling that I needed a new fuel pump. 1 & 2
weren't firing, and hadn't yet. I sprayed around with carb cleaner for
intake leaks, to no avail, checked the float bowl, seemed fine. I checked
the output of the fuel pump, and after a few slow clicks it picked up and
filled my gallon container in 3 minutes. Hmmm, made sure that there was
oil in the daskpot (my preference is 20W 50). Cleaned up the points, and
made SURE that my plugs were on right, (#1 at top right of distributer,
1342 firing order counterclockwise). After a couple more hours of such
tinkering, I decided to mess with the mixture, and got #1 to fire. But #2
was still out. So I pulled of the valve cover, and adjusted the valve
clearances on 1 & 2 to .016mm (should be sealing well with that!?). Still
nothin.

What I don't understand is how #1 can be firing so well, and #2 won't?
Plenty of spark! I am afraid that if I run it too long in this condition,
I will burn valves. The only thing I can think of is to take the carbs
off and retorque the intake & exhaust manifold bolts, and look for an
intake vacuum leak that I might have overlooked.

Any comments or miracle cure advice? Maybe I should be using lead in my
dashpots?
