Sounds allot like my problem.. why high gear Vs low gear?

Hmmm, reminds me of why I used to carry a small open end wrench sized to
fit the square end of my Austin A-40 starter... the ring gear is worn,
and the starter jams on the worn teeth. I used to put the transmission
in HIGH gear, and rock the car back and forth until I heard a "pop"
sound. If I didn't get it in a couple of rocks, it was time for the
wrench.
