The extra width shouldn't be a problem. I'm running 173/70X13 Pirelli's
on my 74 Midget, and have been for several years (not the same set!) I've
not had a problem with tire to suspension/frame/springs, etc. On VERY
rare occaisions, such as a good autox, I have noticed signs of minor
contact on the rear, inside, as if the tire may be touching a spring. But
nothing on the spring to confirm.
