Ahh, the curse of the three main bearing engine. When I shut down my
'62 Mk II (for want of repair funds), it was talking to me whenever I
went over app 4,500 rpm. I'd already polished my rod journals, and used
that graduated shim stock to decrease the bearing clearance.

Bill, buy some "plastigauge", and find out just how much bearing
clearance you actually have. Then you can make your decision with some
degree of confidence that you won't throw a rod, or loose so much oil
volume that you starve a main bearing. Take more than one reading per
journal, because you want to find out if the journal is out-of-round.
