Several gallons, I would find hard to beleive. You know how
much gas is in a gas tank, and how large a gallon (either US
or UK gallon) is in volume.
Guessing at the internals of these pumps, there might be
some old gas in the hose, but I doubt there is an "output
stage" inside the pump that would hold gallons. Even a quart
or so is a fair volume of hose and piping, I can't imagine
there to be nearly this much required.
Even a quart of cheap gas diluted into a gas tank is effectively
meaningless, and I'd feel it would much less than a quart. The
actual tolerance in the gas octane rate itself is probably so
large it would swamp any effects caused by this.
