Just wanted to thank all those with replies about the water temp gauge in
my '70 Midget. Was able to get the gauge out by just dropping the
steering wheel, but not completely removing the dash. My concern with
removing the dash is that the DPO had just had the dash covered, along
with the seats (same sorta black material) and a new top, and I couldnt
get to a couple of the screws holding the top of the dash on - and really
didn't think I could get them back in if I got them out.
The gauge and the speedo are in the mail to MoMa's in New Mexico for
rebuild. $$$$'s but cheaper than new, I guess.
Now I realize how dumb lucky I was. We took out and put back in the temp
sender in my son Pat's '64 Sprite several times without realizing what
could happen.
Had hoped to have this thing running in time to go up to Glenwood Springs
for the 45th annual Denver MG club rallye, but it is looking
questionable. Still don't have the clutch hydralics functioning right -
just ordered new push rods for both master and slave - looks like the
DPO modified them (slave to the point that you had to use channel locks
to squeeze the clutch arm and push rod to get the pin in - only about an
inch longer than the Victoria catalog indicates they should be)
Again, thanks to all for their comments.
