        Thanks.  I did chuckle.  Then I thought how wonderful it was for
someone to admit their ignorance, so that they could learn.
        The Exhaust Gas Recirculation valve is a necessary part of the
emmission system.  You did not state what your application was, i'm
guessing Midget 1500.  At this time it is nigh on impossible to find new
OE units for the Midget 1500/Triumph.  There are people working on a
usable substitute so don't despair.  The MGB unit is commonly still
available.
        I think the discussion on the O2 sensor relates to mixture
sensing devices that are currently on the market.  These have a dash
readout of fuel mixture based on readings obtained from an oxygen sensor
 mounted in the down pipe.
