Robert Allen writes a bunch of interesting stuff about running a car
cooler:
> c) If air pump still there, leave belt off for the summer
Note that the air rail will be chock full of exhaust gasses, with only
the check valve to prevent them from backing up to the pump. I don't
know how much thermal abuse this stuff can take, but you might think
about this.
> f) install a working windshield washer system but run jets
> to front of radiator -- use when close to hot
Love it! You could even run a temperature idiot light, using the signal
to close a relay that turns the washer pump on.
> k) every time temp gauge over 7/8's stop at tavern
Another piece of sound advice.
> m) run fresh-air hoses to stock intake horns
I wouldn't think this would help the motor run cooler. It will cool the
intake charge some, but that makes a bit more power, and power = heat in
IC engines...
I'd like to add one more thing, one that I feel is very useful here in
the Deep, Sweltering South: Run a four-row radiator core. I have one
in the 'B and one in the Volvo, and they both work really well.
Oh, one other thing: Straight water has a bit more cooling efficiency
than 50/50 water/antifreeze mix, but doesn't have any anti-corrosion
properties or water pump lube. Water Wetter does, I believe.
