n my 72 Midget, the air tubes have (had) screw-in adaptors that go into the head. I just unscrewed them and replaced them with flush allen-head bolts so you can't even notice what has been done. I also gutted the air pump, lubed the bearings, and reassembled it without the vanes. Its just a small flywheel now.
