MGB trunk latch

I have a problem.  When I went out to open my trunk today it would not!  =
Several locksmiths tell me it is not the lock but the latch is not =
completely disengaging.

I think I need to cut a hole in the bulkhead and reach in with something =
to pull the latch.  Before I do so I was wondering if anyone else had =
this problem and how did you resolve it.
