Someone was asking for a source of Cermaic Paste.
I was thumbing through a Summit Racing catalog and came across their
variety:
Tech Line Metallic/Ceramic Paste (MCP)
Part# TLC-2601 1.5 oz $23.39
Their number is 800-230-3030 and they have a web site (where you can
order a catalog) at http://www.summitracing.com/
The stuff is described as:
"Originally developed to fix castings and molds, MCP will also fix a
damaged or rusted part. It's designed to fill in the metal surfaces in a
1/8" thick layer at a time. Good to 1,000 degrees F, it can be drilled,
tapped, ground, polished, and even powdercoated (MCP doesn't out-gas
once cured). After metal preparation, MCP can be applied with a putty
knife and cured in an oven."
Fix a cracked exhaust manifold?
The "metal preparation" and "cured in an oven" parts give me pause. They
also have "Tech Line Powerkote Cermet Coating for Nonferrous Metals"
which is meant to be air brushed on top of "metal prepared" aluminum
pistons. There the curing is at 350 degrees which would be doable for
pistons in the oven when the SO ain't looking.
