I know I said that I was going to get the A together and go for a ride this
weekend but too many things have come up. I haven't touched the car since
last weekend and we have a dance recital on Saturday.
I do hope to get the parts stripped and painted this week. Next week most
of my evenings are free so, if the weather holds, I will only have a one
week schedule slip (guess what I do for a living).
The Panther J72 was a SS100 Jaguar replicar. It was all metal, I believe
and used Jaguar mechanicals. When new, the cars were considered quite good
and had an enthusiastic following.
Like many companies who discover a "good thing", Panther Westwind decided
to expand their offerings to include the models mentioned in the earlier
posts. These were more modern, usable cars that retained some classic
styling. These cars did not appeal at all to the loyal group of
enthusiasts that bought the J72 and did not sell well. The Lima, which was
supposed to be a relatively high volume model, was a total flop and put the
company under.
I expect that if someone wanted to buy a J72 now they would find that it
was still pretty expensive because it is a high quality interpretation of a
much beloved car. The others are just kit cars and pimp mobiles. I would
not compare a J72 to the Excalibur although the other models probably fit
into that category.
