One listing intrigued me, its a 1979 MG PUMA, described as a "GT
CONVERTIBLE" it puports to be a Brazilian made car with a VW engine. I
imagine its some sort of replicar - but of what? - anyone any idea what
this is? I do remember seeing some"odd "cars when i was in Brazil once
but dont recall anything like this.
Mike:
I remember seeing a Brazilian Puma a few years ago at the Carlisle
Imports show. It was a low-slung, attractive black coupe, so I checked
my library (A-Z of Sportscars, Bayview books) when I read your note. I
read that Puma was a specialist Brazilian car maker from 1964 to 1985.
After making some cars based on a 2-stroke DKW they switched to the VW
beetle floorpan. From 1973-79 they made some 2+2 coupes called GTB based
on Brazilian Chevys with engines from 2.5L fours to 4.1L sixes. Puma
failed in '85 and was taken over by another concern. (Ford of GB also
owned the name Puma in GB and there was an Italian outfit that made
"Pumas" in the '80s.
