MGB rocker panels

Is there supposed to be anything sealing the joints where the
front and rear fenders overlap with the outer rocker panels?
The places that I am talking about are the vertical joints under the 
front and rear edges of the doors.

I believe that I have heard here before that these joints are supposed
to be open, but I want to make certain of this before I turn my car
over the body shop for finishing, just in case he has other ideas.
