You correct there, Any discrepency in he rolling radius of the two rear
wheel will cause hardship on the poor diff.
The point I was making was that for (as you stated) Very short, low speed
trips, the compact spare is viable. My definition of a short trip in such a
situation would be the most direct line at the minimum speed possible
(considering traffic, etc) to a location where the road wheel/tyre can be
repaired safely. Even if that means getting the car off the freeway an into a
shopping center parking lot, (no tire repairer being immediatly avalible) and
calling AAA or your best buddy to come get you.
