As an auditor by trade, there is no substitute for original
documentation (your eyes on the car) copies are less reliable (photos,
video etc.). The only possible substitute I can see for not putting
your eyes on the car is to use your list friends to check it out for you
(known as independent third party confirmation in trade lingo!) and have
them describe it and take pictures for you -- this way at least the
pictures will be known to be recent (and not a month before the accident
the seller "forgot" to disclose) and they can test drive and inform you
of the oil pressure, running temp, etc..... Good luck in your search!
