Thanks for everyones help last week on my clutch creep problem. The rebuild
of the clutch master cylinder did the trick. (leaking internally around the
seal). John Twist's new Tech Book had exactly the information I needed,
Thanks John. While in the process I decided to go ahead and replace the
slave cylinder and hose. Things were going well until I tried to bolt up the
new slave cylinder to the housing. The hose would not reach with out
stretching it horribly and pulling very hard on the hose end connections.
Then it came to me. The slave cylinder had arrived with the bleed nipple in
the end of the slave cylinder (the fitting opposite the piston. I had
connected the hose into the fitting on the side of the slave. The hose and
slave that came off the car was also plumbed up the same way. Then I
remembered someone posting last fall that the bleed nipple comes mounted in
the end fitting and must be moved to the side of the cylinder. I gave a
quick call over to Rex and asked him to look at his roadster. He confirmed
that the hose should be in the end fitting, bleed nipple in the side.
Apparently my DPO had made the same mistake. Took it all down and refitted
the hose. Refilled the reservior and hooked up the Mighty Vac. Sucked the
air out of the cylinder (no helper to pump the pedal), and all was right
with the world. Thanks for everyones help. Brakes and tie rods are next.
